“A

h, Elder Hao, it is good to see you,” Cai Bo said as the older man walked into her office and moved to the couches where she was sitting with a pot of tea. Her cup released threads of steam.

“High Elder, is there something wrong? From your message it seemed that there was something of immediate importance.” Elder Hao said as he sat down.

“Yes, Elder Hao. I have some disturbing information. It seems there are some people that have still not heard the sect leader’s orders. There are those within our ranks who are still thinking about themselves instead of the sect.”

“Outrageous, do they have no honor?” Elder Hao said, stroking his beard as his brows pinched together in apparent rage.

“I have been following up on supplies that have gone missing. The results have been most displeasing.” She collected her cup and sat back, making no show to pour Elder Hao a cup. “Elder Hao, I should praise you. I always thought that you were a spineless coward, but now I see that you are actually a sneaky rat.” Cai Bo smiled as she sipped from her tea.

“I would watch my words if I were you, Elder Cai Bo. While we are both high Elders. You are still my junior!” His voice rose as he pulled on his robes, his face turning in fury.

“Oh, then I will not find out that several shipments of supplies that were meant for cities in the Third Realm were diverted to the Hao Clan’s personal warehouses instead? Do I need to name the cities? Two of them fell in the attacks. Maybe if they had those supplies, they could have held on.”

“Be careful with what you say, Cai Bo,” Elder Hao said dangerously.

Cai Bo’s mask slipped as she snarled. “You’d best learn to act your station, dog! Unless you want me to go to the sect leader and report the truth of the matter. Should I tell him about the assassins you planted, killing clans members in the heat of battle to clear the line for your own people and muddy the waters? I am reminded of the brilliant tactical genius, the newly promoted third general Feng Hao.” She raised an eyebrow. “I find it interesting how such an inept boy was able to lead so many people valiantly in the defense of Goreck City. Don’t you? Do you think that Elder Lui would be interested in what happened to General Tong?”

Elder Hao trembled, his face turning red and white.

“Yes, you could attack me, Elder Hao. You might even kill me. But do you think the sect leader would allow you or your clan to survive after the elder that has helped him the most through this entire war is killed in some random meeting? Oh, believe me when I say the information will find its way into his ears.”

She sipped her tea as Elder Hao bowed his head, his hands gripping his robes.

“What do you want?” He looked up from his knees and at her.
